PSL last: Shaheen Shah Afridi disproves Shahid Afridi |
LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi on Sunday proved veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi wrong when he led his team to win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) title for the first time.
The Qalandars outclassed the Sultans and beat them by 42 runs as the Shaheens-led team set up the clinic and did not disappoint their fans - winning their first PSL title in seven editions.
The Qalandars administration brought in a 21-year-old captain before this year's PSL, but Shahid was against the decision.
"I advised Shaheen to wait a year or two before accepting the captaincy so that he can focus more on his bowling, but since he is also Afridi," Afridi told a private television channel. Did not listen to me
"I am just happy to say that he has decided to take on this responsibility and I hope he will prove me wrong," the former captain said.
And Shaheen did just that.
Not only did he become the youngest captain to lead the PSL franchise to victory, but he was also the leading wicket-taker in the current edition - 20 scallops and three wickets in the final.
After the match, Afridi praised Shaheen on Twitter and said that he is really a champion.
"Amazing Lahore Qalandars !! Congratulations Shaheen Shah Afridi you are truly a champion," he said.
Afridi added that "the whole Qalandars squad and indeed the whole of Lahore deserves it."
